Brand governance docs

N-C Branding Guard documentation.

Install the free Gutenberg guard, define brand rules, and use Pro for reports, publish controls, exceptions, activity logs, Elementor scans, and WPBakery scans.

Manual

N-C Branding Guard user guide.

N-C Branding Guard helps WordPress teams keep everyday editing inside approved brand rules. Free focuses on Gutenberg warnings and policy setup. Pro adds reports, publishing enforcement, exceptions, activity logs, printable client reports, Elementor scans, and WPBakery scans.

Quick start

Install Free, define rules, then test with a real editor workflow.

  1. Download the free ZIP from the N-C Branding Guard landing page.
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  3. Upload the ZIP, activate it, then open Settings > N-C Branding Guard.
  4. Add approved color rows using Name | #HEX | slug.
  5. Add allowed font size slugs, allowed Gutenberg blocks, and restricted roles.
  6. Open a post as an editor or author and confirm the N-C Branding Guard sidebar shows useful warnings.
  7. Export a policy JSON backup before importing a shared policy or repeating setup on another site.
Best first test: start in warning mode, publish a draft with intentional off-brand colors, then tune your policy before turning on stricter block-inserter or Pro publish controls.

Policy

Use the policy as a practical editing contract.

Brand colorsApproved palette rows. The scanner checks Gutenberg color slugs and custom hex colors against this list.
Font size slugsAllowed theme font-size slugs such as small, medium, large, and x-large.
Allowed blocksOptional Gutenberg block allowlist for teams that want tighter editing controls.
Restricted rolesRoles that receive warnings and optional enforcement. Administrators are never restricted.
Issue severityIgnore, warn, or block unsupported blocks, color drift, and typography drift.
Policy portabilityExport and import policy JSON so the same brand rules can be reused across launches, client sites, or staging-to-production moves.
Support SnapshotA copyable diagnostic block from the plugin settings page for faster support requests.

Plans

Free is the editor guard. Pro is the proof and enforcement layer.

N-C Branding Guard FreeGutenberg warnings, approved colors, font-size rules, block allowlist, restricted roles, optional block-inserter restriction, and a scan API for extensions.
N-C Branding Guard ProPublish/update blocking, full-site reports, triage-ready CSV export, printable client report, approved exceptions, activity log, auto-fix, and builder scans.
Agency useUse reports, approved exceptions, and activity logs to show clients how brand governance is being handled over time.
Future roadmapMultiple active brand policies, scheduled scans, and deeper Elementor/WPBakery editor-side enforcement.

Builders

Gutenberg is active in Free. Elementor and WPBakery scanning are active in Pro.

  • Free scans Gutenberg blocks in the editor and through the core scan API.
  • Pro scans Elementor saved data for off-brand hex colors and custom typography settings.
  • Pro scans WPBakery shortcode attributes for inline colors and typography drift.
  • Pro editor-side auto-fix currently focuses on Gutenberg colors and typography.
  • Unsupported blocks are not auto-replaced because that could remove intentional content structure.

Publish controls

Pro turns the policy into a guard, not just a scanner.

  • Free warnings help editors fix issues before publishing.
  • Pro uses Block severities to stop restricted roles from publishing or updating guarded content with unresolved brand issues.
  • Blocking runs on the block editor REST save path and supported admin save paths.
  • WPBakery shortcode color and typography drift can be evaluated before supported saves complete.
  • Approved exceptions let admins intentionally allow a specific issue so reports and blocking focus on unresolved drift.
  • The activity log records blocked attempts with user, content, status, and issue summary.

License and billing

Use the Support Hub for Pro ZIP downloads, license checks, and activation.

  1. Install and activate N-C Branding Guard Free first.
  2. Download N-C Branding Guard Pro from the Support Hub using the purchase email and license key.
  3. Install and activate the Pro ZIP in WordPress.
  4. Open N-C Branding Guard Pro > Settings.
  5. Paste the license key and click Activate License.
  6. Use Check Status any time you want to verify the connected site or plan limit.

Support workflow

Send the policy context with the ticket.

Both Free and Pro include a Support Snapshot on their settings screens. Paste that snapshot into a support request when warnings, reports, or license checks behave unexpectedly.

  • Include the affected post URL or admin edit link.
  • Include whether the content was built in Gutenberg, Elementor, WPBakery, or a custom block.
  • Include the expected brand rule and what was flagged incorrectly.
  • For license issues, include the purchase email and the license status message shown in Pro settings.
